Fog Women coach at GRRRL Camp!

Fog Women will be leading a session w/ GRRRL Camp this summer from July 16th-20th for girls ages 6-12!

GRRRL is a nonprofit organization that empowers girls to realize their full potential through sports, dance, self-defense, health education, and social justice education.

The camp facilitates the creation of a network of powerful girls who are self-confident and support each other. Participants inspire each other to fight beauty standards, attitudes, and assumptions that are taught by the media. GRRRL focuses on middle school girls to provide them with the tools to make healthy choices and to be self-confident on the field, in school, and in the workplace.

Each afternoon (1-4pm) will consist of a sport/activity and workshop. In an exciting and rare collaboration, girls (6-12 years old) will experience the basics in CrossFit, Soccer, Self-Defense, Modern Dance, and Rugby! They will also learn about the history of women in sports, body image, leadership and more! Join us for a fun week at Eureka Valley Rec Center!

'With You' Screening - Jun 18 @ 4pm

Come represent San Francisco Fog RFC as we support the release of With You, a documentary honoring our fallen brother, Mark Bingham. If attending, it is recommended that you wear a white button-down shirt and fog tie.

Doors open at 3:30pm. Tickets may be purchased in advance here. View the original trailer.

Description: WITH YOU is a feature length documentary focusing on the unique bond between a mother and son and how it was ultimately strengthened by the tragedy of 9/11. The film explores the lives of Mark Bingham, one of the heroes of United Flight 93 on September 11, 2001, and his mother, Alice Hoagland, a former United Airlines flight attendant. Devastated by her loss but inspired by the memory of her son, Alice becomes a nationally known authority on airline safety and a champion of LGBT rights across the country. Within the shadow of a national tragedy, With You illuminates a personal story of love, loss and the true nature of heroism.

Pre-screening meet & greet:
Come meet members of the SF Fog RFC for drinks at Toad Hall before attending the “With You” screening, 2:00-3:15PM.

It Gets Better - Fog Rugby

Fog Rugby, with the help of Sean Chapin, has produced a video for the It Gets Better Project, in solidarity with LGBT youth.

Fog Lions youth rugby program

In 2007, Fog Rugby started a youth side for kids from grades 2-5 at the Tenderloin Community School. The school mascot is the lion, so the team became the Fog Lions, with an Okinawan shisa lion logo.

The Fog Lions is an after-school club, hosted by a teacher but coached by Fog volunteers. There are 14 players on the roster, so matches have six or seven players on each team, just right for under-10 flag rugby. The match rules are based on the Play Rugby USA program, which also provides a team charter that emphasizes fair play and respect. The players read the charter before each session.

Rugby traditions are important for the Fog Lions. The members wear their team shirts to school each Friday and they have rugby nicknames and use rugby terminology.

The Fog Lions hope to someday have an opponent to play against, and a middle school program to move on to, but for now they are the only rugby program in San Francisco below high school age.

Fog Rugby at Komen Race for the Cure

The San Francisco Fog participated in the annual Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday, September 24, 2006. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is a series of 5K runs/fitness walks held across the United States that raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

The following is a video of members of the San Francisco Fog donning their jerseys and running 5k on an early Sunday morning in the 2006 Komen Race for the Cure held in San Francisco.

Fog Rugby at Run To Remember 9-11

On Sunday, September 11, 2005, the San Francisco Fog Rugby Football Club participated in the inaugural Run to Remember 9-11, a 5-K race to honor those who died during the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001, by celebrating their lives. The event was co-hosted by Team Bingham, a nonprofit organization devoted to honoring the memory of Mark Bingham, player for the San Francisco Fog.
